Dennis Palmer

Speaker Image

Dennis cut his coding teeth by teaching himself BASIC on a Texas Instruments TI-99/4A computer in the early 80's. His earliest memory of debugging a program was when he found that his mother had typed the letter O instead of the digit 0 in a hexadecimal string that defined the graphics of a program she copied from the listing in a magazine.

After discovering Delphi 1.0 during college, he went to work on a fax broadcast system and other telephony projects.

In the late 90's he worked with a few record labels to put software on their music CD's. This included Windows screen savers of album art work and a music player that scrolled the lyrics of each song across the screen -- all written in Delphi.

After that, he spent about 5 years doing web development in PHP (even working with a PHP MVC Framework) before discovering ASP.NET and C#.

He remained somewhat proud of the fact that he had never worked with Visual Basic until starting his current job where it is the company's language of choice for developing Microsoft Office customizations for the legal industry. Even though he still gets lost when looking at VB6 code, with the advent of LINQ to XML and XML Literals in VB9, he is happy to be a VB.NET developer.

In his spare time, he is doing Windows Phone 7 and iPhone development and working on a few ASP.NET MVC projects.

Dennis was recognized as the 2nd runner up for the Inland Empire .NET User Group (http://iedotnetug.org) Most Valuable Member award for 2008-2009. He moved to Texas with his wife and young daughter in August 2009.

Some may call John a geek. He prefers the term “technologist.” Truth is, John began working with computers before PCs even hit the scene – and he’s probably got a dusty prototype stashed somewhere to prove it. He’s a fourth generation educator who loves to help people learn new technologies and relishes that magic moment when the light comes on in their eyes. Before joining Microsoft full time, he spent six years as an MCT, training people at a local college and getting new Microsoft hires up to speed. John holds more certifications than he can remember, but the list definitely includes MCITP, MCSE, MCDBA, MCT, and CCNA. His favorite technology is Unified Communications, LYNC and he gets a special thrill from solving customers’ problems. For John, there’s nothing like coaxing people from panic to joy when a server goes down and he can help get the business back up on line. When he’s not working, John can usually be found sailing around Texas with his kids.

Russell Wright

Speaker Image

Russell Wright - Solutions Architect, Business Analyst and Instructor
Specializations: Business Process Solutions, Logistics and Database Design and Architecture

Russell began his career at Texas Instruments as an electronic technician and, while at TI, obtained his degree in Electrical Engineering from Southern Methodist University, specializing in biomedical engineering. While working in the Defense Systems and Electronics Group designing and supporting radar equipment, he morphed into the local mainframe systems expert and thus began his I/T career.

During the 80’s, Russell experienced the PC revolution while assisting his customers with improving business processes using mainframe, mini and personal computers. A great deal of his time was spent specifying requirements for and supporting a large, internally developed document management system. He transitioned this knowledge in the 90’s by heading a team that built a global document management system utilizing mainframe and Microsoft technologies that is still in use today.

Russell’s career moved towards remote asset tracking and transportation management prior to the sale of the Defense Systems to Raytheon. Before completion of the sale, Russell moved to a Principal Analyst position at Frito-Lay where he drove the transportation management requirements for implementation of the i2 Transportation Management System. After some time at Frito-Lay, he moved back to the Worldwide Procurement and Logistics area at TI in the Semiconductor Group where he managed a small systems group.

It was during this time that he attended a Microsoft Office XP event and brought back SharePoint Team Services (1.0) to Texas Instruments, beginning the SharePoint revolution at TI. With the introduction of STS 1.0 and subsequent migrations to WSS 2.0 and MOSS 2007, Russell’s team focused on providing information workers with the assistance they needed to bring significant business value and process improvement to the procurement and logistics areas.

Speaker Bio for Russell Wright

Russell introduced SharePoint to Texas Instruments in 2002 while heading a systems group in the Worldwide Procurement and Logistics area. His team assisted internal users with obtaining significant business value from Windows SharePoint Services and other Microsoft technologies for several years. He continues to help people plan and architect business solutions using SharePoint. When he’s not SharePoint-ing, you can find him at the bowling alley.
